Girl Scouts Just Desserts Centennial Birthday Bash a Sweet Success!
HOUSTON (February 10, 2012) – The 100th anniversary year of Girl Scouting in the Houston area is off to a great start. The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council hosted its annual donor appreciation event, Just Desserts on Thursday, February 2 at the Hotel Icon in downtown Houston. Eight celebrity chefs from around Houston, paired with Girl Scout sous chefs, faced off in a battle of the batter, making original desserts using the infamous Girl Scout Cookie.
More than 125 guests enjoyed the pallet-pleasing event as celebrity chefs vied for the title of Best Use of Cookie, Most Delicious, Most Camp Friendly, Most Fun Table Display, Girl Scout Judges Favorite, Most Creative Recipe, Best Dessert Presentation, Celebrity Judges Favorite and People’s Choice Award. The Hotel Icon served as the perfect venue since the hotel building is also 100 years old.
This year’s participants included chefs from Haven, Grand Finale Catering, Fluff Bake bar, Dessert Gallery, Amy’s Ice Cream, Line & Lariat, Ooh La La: The Dessert Boutique and Michael’s Cookie Jar.
Girl Scouts were paired with members of the media who served as the competition’s judges, which included Sonia Azad of ABC-13, KPRC Local 2’s Amy Davis and Taylor Bryne-Dodge of My Table magazine, Tiffany Craig of KHOU-11, Dana Donovan of Houston Family Magazine and Rebecca Suarez of Univision. The girl judges were all top cookie sellers, having each sold more than 1,000 boxes of cookies during the 2010-2011 Girl Scout year.
