Girl Scout travels path of adventure with destinations trip to India
HOUSTON (November 2011) - Girl Scout Ambassador Caroline M. traveled to India July 5-25 for the Discover Yourself While You Discover India destinations trip. destinations are travel adventures for Girl Scouts ages 13-18 that take place all over the world and give girls the chance to meet remarkable girls, develop leadership skills, gain confidence and enjoy valuable learning opportunities.
I love traveling and the diversity of people and cultures, says Caroline, a junior at St. Agnes Academy. My goal is to visit all four World Centers. I had already visited two and after this trip, I only have Our Cabana in Mexico left to achieve this goal.
To go on a destinations trip, girls must submit an application, two personal references and an essay explaining why they want to participate in the event and what skills or talents they can contribute to the group. Girl Scouts can apply for up to four trips per year. A limited number of girls are chosen for each destination, and no more than two girls from one Girl Scout council are chosen to encourage attendees to make new friends. After being chosen for a destination, Girl Scouts are responsible for raising the funds to go on the trip through selling cookies, money earned at a job or personal savings.
Caroline and her fellow Girl Scouts experienced the Indian culture through sampling food, visiting an Indian market, going Sari shopping, and participating in a Take Action project. The girls also visited the Sangam World Center, one of the four Girl Scouting centers worldwide, the Taj Mahal, New Dehli and more.
