Fort Bend Coffee Divas Rally for Girl Scouting

Fort Bend, TX (Feb. 24, 2010) – In 2005, a group of Fort Bend volunteers called the Divas, planned and implemented a Cookie Diva Gala to celebrate Girl Scouting in Fort Bend with Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council. Five years later, the same group reconvened and hosted the Coffee Diva Social. Funds contributed by the Baker’s Dozen, as the group referred to itself, underwrote the event and guests contributed $35 each to enable Girl Scouting on the Go in Fort Bend. A total of 124 donors supported the social with over 100 attending the coffee.

The Fort Bend Girl Scouting on the Go program enables girls in underserved communities where volunteer leadership is not available. These programs take place for approximately 27 weeks. They serve over 1,000 girls in six Fort Bend schools and help girls to reach their full leadership potential.

The Girl Scouting on the Go program includes two overnight trips to Camp Pryor in Nada, Texas. Here attendees gain an opportunity to grow independence, work with others, enjoy the outdoors and develop a respect for nature. This camp welcomes over 8,500 campers per year. The George Foundation generously funded a spectacular pool for camp visitors to enjoy as well as the community center. The George Foundation is also a huge supporter of Fort Bend Girl Scouting on the Go. For every two Coffee Diva Social attendees, one girl can participate for one year in the Fort Bend Girl Scouting on the Go program.

Stay tuned for a special Fort Bend Diva and Dudes event in November!
