Girl Scouts are Building Bridges Together at Urban Campout 2007
Honoring Paige Fertitta

Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC) is continuously building bridges whether they are between girls and opportunities or future leaders and their communities. Join GSSJC at its highly anticipated annual event, Urban Campout, with the theme of "Building Bridges Together" on Thursday, May 3 from 6 to 10 p.m. at InterContinental Houston Hotel honoring Paige Fertitta. Miya Shay of KTRK-TV Channel 13 will serve as mistress of ceremonies and John McCoy as auctioneer.

When GSSJC and Girl Scouts of South Texas Council merged last summer, a world of new possibilities opened for Girl Scouts in the combined Council’s 25 counties. Funds raised from Urban Campout specifically benefit community outreach programs developed by GSSJC that give more than 19,000 girls in low to moderate-income communities the opportunity to participate in outreach programs. These programs include: Girl Scouting in the School Day which provides contemporary issues programs to girls; Girl Scouting Beyond Bars which is designed to help incarcerated mothers foster healthy, lasting relationships with their daughters; Activity Centers, which are Girl Scout meetings that take place in schools, community centers and public housing facilities; an After-School Day Care Program in collaboration with the YMCA; a Head Start Collaboration, which provides a 10 week program in the spring of each year to those girls who will be turning five years old by the end of the summer; and Leadership Development Projects with various housing authorities and schools.

Since Urban Campout's inception in 1991, more than 50,000 girls have been impacted by the more than $2 million raised through this event. Current sponsors include Paige and Tilman Fertitta/Landry's Restaurants Inc., Pogo Producing Co., Dorothy M. Goodykoontz, Halliburton, Holes Inc., Sterling Bank, ABC Interbake Foods, Inc., Baker Hughes, Cooper Industries, H-E-B, Monica and Kevin King, Tami and Dan McGuire, Regina Rogers, Nancy and E.C. "Bud" Simpson, Strasburger & Price L.L.P., Texas Aromatics LP, The Charles and Betti Saunders Foundation, and TGS-NOPEC Geophysical. In-kind and live auction donors are Amazon Grill, Continental Airlines, Landry’s Restaurants, Inc., Neiman Marcus and Shell Oil, plus many more.
