Girl Scout Cookies Have Arrived

What weighs more than 300 tons and is eagerly awaited by thousands of people in southeast Texas? For the past month, San Jacinto Council Girl Scout entrepreneurs have been taking orders for delicious Girl Scout Cookies. Now the fruits of their labors have arrived by the truckload! On Saturday, February 10, the Sam Houston Race Park was the site for one mammoth delivery. Twenty-four trucks, two forklifts, 80 deliverymen, and 200 volunteers distributed more than 71,000 cases of cookies to 2,000 cars and 800 troops, who will then be delivering more than 800,000 packages of cookies to customers.

This first mega drop is one of three that will happen in the 25 county area that the San Jacinto Council serves. In addition to the delivery of Girl Scout cookies to individual customers, Girl Scouts will be offering the cookies at cookie booths outside of grocery stores and other retail venues starting February 23.

Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbread, Thanks-A-Lot, Cartwheels, Caramel DeLites and the delicious new Lemonades are the eight varieties of cookies available. The price for a package of cookies is $3.50. All varieties of Girl Scout cookies are now "zero trans fat per serving."

The sale ends March 25. The public can call 1-888-GS-COOKIE or visit www.gssjc.org to find out where to purchase cookies.

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Chartered by GSUSA to provide Girl Scouting locally, Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council is one of the largest Girl Scout councils in the country serving over 63,000 girl members and 18,000 adults in 25 southeast Texas counties.
