Girl Scout Devyn C. Wins International Calendar Contest

San Jacinto Girl Scout Devyn C. won BHP Billiton's annual calendar contest. One of 13 winners, Devyn's art is displayed on the cover of the calendar. All entrants submitted art that demonstrated both environmental and community awareness. The theme of Devyn's drawing was - "Everyday Recycle, safety and health are important to the world." More than 80 entries were received from the children or relatives of BHP Billiton's employees throughout the world including London, Perth, Pakistan, and Liverpool Bay.

This 13 year-old seventh grader from Wonderlick Middle School is a member of Troop #10310 and has been drawing since she was nine. "I have always liked doing artistic things with my troop," she says. "I think it might be fun to be a cartoonist someday." Devyn also wanted to educate people about recycling. "It helps the ecosystem," she says, "and animals don't have to lose their homes." Tayna White, Devyn's mother, is very proud of both her daughter's attitude and accomplishments. "Once I found out she won, I could hardly work for the rest of the day," she says.
