Today the Upper Kirby Management District, the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, and AAA Texas reached an amicable agreement regarding the ownership of the AAA building and land on the Southwest Freeway. The groups participated in mediation with Judge Susan Soussan. Under the parties’ agreement, the Girl Scouts are to purchase the property from AAA, and Upper Kirby will have certain rights for use of parts of the property, as well as rights regarding leasing and future purchase of the property from the Girl Scouts.

Jamie Brewster of the Upper Kirby Management District said she was excited about the parties’ resolution, which will allow the Girl Scouts to become an important component in the community services to be provided within the Upper Kirby Civic Center that Upper Kirby has planned. Brewster says that the Girl Scouts have always been a key member of the not-for-profit family envisioned for this project. She advised that the resolution is a win-win situation, accomplishing the primary goals of all parties.

Mary Vitek, Chief Executive Officer of the Girl Scouts, said that the Girl Scouts also were very pleased with the parties’ resolution. Ownership of the AAA property will allow the Girl Scouts to expand their programming and to continue to provide quality programming for the more than 58,000 Girl Scouts in the Houston area for the indefinite future. The Girl Scouts are also pleased to be able to participate in the redevelopment of nearby Levy Park and to play a part in the Upper Kirby Civic Complex, and they look forward to continued good relations with Upper Kirby.

The parties have agreed to conclude the lawsuit currently pending before Judge Brent Gamble.
